Alternatives to helicopter transport: our experience delivering furniture to Mustadkroken

The cabin is beautifully located but has no direct road access. Instead of immediately choosing a helicopter, we investigated alternative methods and found a workable solution.

The challenge of reaching a cabin without easy access

Existing furniture had to be removed and new furniture brought in. Common options are waiting for suitable snowmobile conditions or considering a helicopter. Our method is cost-effective and requires less planning and logistics from the customer. In fact, our price was one third of a helicopter lift!

Our approach

  • Using a rowing boat: We transported furniture as far across the water as possible, significantly reducing the subsequent carrying distance.
  • Custom stretchers and carrying frames: We had made stretchers that could be attached to our carrying frames to move heavier furniture on foot. We did not need them on this trip, but brought them as backup for the rowing boat method.

Although this method needed more time and physical effort than helicopter transport, the furniture was successfully delivered and removed without air transport.

Benefits of considering alternative transport methods

Our experience at Mustadkroken highlights several benefits of exploring alternatives to helicopters:

  • Potentially lower costs: Helicopter transport can be a substantial expense. Alternative methods may provide a more economical solution.
  • Reduced environmental footprint: Sustainability is an important consideration. Avoiding helicopter transport helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and noise in nature.
  • Flexibility and adaptability: We can develop transport solutions tailored to the specific conditions on site.

When alternative solutions can be a good choice

Based on our experience, alternative transport methods are worth considering in these situations:

  • Where part of the journey can use water or existing trails.
  • When the schedule allows a slower process and transport can be planned over several days.
  • When reducing costs and environmental impact are priorities.

Conclusion: practical solutions deliver results

Our furniture transport experience at Mustadkroken shows that helicopters are not necessarily the only solution, even for cabins without direct road access.
