As part of maintenance at the DNT cabin Huldreheim, Resupply Norway was asked to remove a small quantity of demolition waste and a small boat. One person completed the job without a helicopter, using a car and manual transport.
The very tough Toyota Hilux (a dream car from 2001) was driven as far as possible along the forest road. From there, a woodland trail continued for about two kilometres. Equipment and waste were removed using a carrying frame and cart over several trips.
Helicopter transport is useful and essential in many situations. In this case, conditions made it possible to complete the job without flying, reducing costs and the impact on the area.
The job showed that simpler, traditional transport methods can sometimes replace a helicopter, especially when the distance to the road is manageable. We share it as an example of assessing different solutions according to terrain, needs and logistics.
Below is a video from the job.
