Alternatives to helicopter transport

Helicopters are suitable for many heavy jobs. For smaller, awkward or flexible deliveries, a simpler solution may make more sense.

Typical requirements

What the job may include

  • Small to medium total loads
  • Scattered delivery points or irregular loads
  • Jobs under tree cover, near buildings or without a good landing zone
  • Deliveries with dates that can be adapted to weather and staffing
  • Jobs that also need setup or work on site

01

Helicopters are not always expensive

For large volumes over a short, open route, a helicopter can move much more per lift than people can. Air transport may then be faster and competitively priced. Distance from the base, minimum charges and ground crew requirements affect the calculation.

Manual or combined transport becomes more attractive when mobilisation accounts for a large part of the helicopter price, the load can be split, the route is short enough, or transport is combined with practical work.

02

Ask for a method assessment before booking

Send the total weight, heaviest item, distance, elevation difference and photos. We estimate staffing and time, and tell you if we think a helicopter or external specialist is more suitable.

ResupplyNorway does not own or operate helicopters. Where that transport is appropriate, we can provide supporting information, ground work and coordination once an agreement with an approved operator is in place.

Next step

Need transport or practical help where cars cannot reach?

Send a map location, photos and what you know about the job. We will assess it and get back to you with suggested next steps.
