Method assessment

Alternatives to drone transport

Cargo drones can move heavy items quickly on the right route. Heavy drone operations still require mobilisation, safety measures, suitable weather and a clear flight corridor.

Typical requirements

What the job may include

  • Short or complex one-off jobs
  • Dense woodland, cables or limited clear airspace
  • Irregular and long objects
  • Several small delivery points
  • Transport combined with installation, clearing or setup

01

The same needs, different strengths

A cargo drone can be very efficient when many items weighing 30–85 kg need to be shuttled between two open points. On a small one-off job, planning, the operator and safety arrangements may account for a larger share of the cost.

Manual transport can reach places without a clear flight corridor, and the crew can adapt packing and the route along the way. Daily capacity is considerably lower, however.

02

We do not offer heavy drone operations ourselves

ResupplyNorway currently mainly provides manual and combined transport. We do not claim to fly heavy loads. If a drone is the best method, the work must be carried out by an approved external operator.

Our role may include assessing the load and route, organising ground crews and handling the final stage, but only with clear responsibilities and agreements.
